Biofilm formation by homotypicP. gingivalis33277 or ECF sigma factor mutants. The strains were grown on enriched BHI broth anaerobically at 37Ā°C in collagen type-I-coated 12-well flat-bottom microplates. After 48Ā h of cultivation, the organized biofilm mass was evaluated by staining with crystal violet. (a) The photographs are a representative sample of each experimental strain.
