Table 1 Classification of peri-implantitis

From: Survival analysis of implants after surgical treatment of peri-implantitis based on bone loss severity and surgical technique: a retrospective study

Stage 1 (Early)

Bone loss < 25% of the implant length† and

PD ≥ 4 mm (bleeding on probing and/or suppuration*)

 

Stage 2 (Moderate)

Bone loss 25–50% of the implant length† and

PD ≥ 4 mm (bleeding on probing and/or suppuration*)

 

Stage 3 (Advanced)

Bone loss > 50% of the implant length† and

PD ≥ 4 mm (bleeding on probing and/or suppuration*)

 
  1. †Noted on two or more aspects of the implant with bone loss ≥ 2 mm recorded.
  2. *Measured on radiographs from time of definitive prosthesis loading to current radiograph. If not.
  3. available, the earliest available radiograph following loading was used [8].
