Bacteria suspended in PBS were allowed to form biofilms on titanium surfaces in a parallel plate flow-cell system for 2 and 24 hours. The metabolic activity of the cells was assessed using the Bac Light CTC Vitality Kit. For adhered cells, DAPI was used as a counterstain. Cells were viewed with CSLM and the proportion of metabolically active (red/pink) cells assessed by manually counting at least 1000 cells.
